Our Academic Approach

Our approach to teaching and learning at P.S. 207 directly connect to our vision of Growing Leaders of Today and Tomorrow, and our mission, to unite and ignite a love of learning and to create a joyful, equitable and culturally responsive learning environment which fosters the leadership skills and values necessary for the success of all members of our school community.

During each lesson, our students engage in high-level, cognitively demanding tasks which are tiered in order to meet the needs of all learners while meeting the specific goals of the lesson. Our approach to learning embraces student discussion and using student work to teach content. Teachers monitor, select and sequence student work presentations, with the purpose of displaying common errors, building knowledge from these errors, and making connections to new learning.

At PS 207, we encompass a Growth Mindset and equitable approach to teaching. learning and assessment.  Students learn that there are numerous ways to show what they know and can do by self-correcting their missteps, explaining their misunderstandings, asking for further clarification and reflecting on their learning.

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

What is MTSS?

MTSS grew out of the integration of two other intervention-based frameworks: Response to Intervention (RtI) and PBIS.  As part of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004) the Response to Intervention model sought to identify students who would benefit from more intensive supports and as a tool to help improve educational outcomes for students in special education.  Rather than a sole focus on Special Education, the MTSS framework encompasses all students at every level.  MTSS allows us to take a proactive approach to identifying students with academic or behavioral needs.

The MTSS integrated instruction model uses collected data to assess student needs and provide intervention and enrichment in appropriate tiers to support the varied needs of all of our students.  At P.S. 207, the following e components are part of our MTSS approach:
