Dear PS 207 Families,
Happy August!!!! We hope you have enjoyed a relaxing and rejuvenating break filled with joyful memory-making with family and friends. It is hard to believe that the start of the school year is almost here! At PS 207, there is always an air of excitement about returning to our school with fresh thoughts and ideas about the year ahead. Whether you are joining the PS 207 team this year or you are a returning family member, our hope is that you share in the excitement and collective commitment to all of the great things to come during the 2025–2026 school year!
As always, the vision and mission of the NYC DOE, District 10, and PS 207 are fully aligned—focused on providing our students with the highest quality educational experience possible as they grow into the leaders of today and tomorrow. The best way to achieve success is through continued collective teamwork and responsibility by all.
In their book Building Communities from the Inside Out: A Path Toward Finding and Mobilizing a Community’s Assets, John P. Kretzmann and John L. McKnight emphasize the value of unleashing the special gifts, talents, and skills—or community “assets”—that teachers, parents, and community members possess and are willing to share in the school. Kretzmann and McKnight state these “gifts” can take many forms, but the common goal is for everyone to share their assets and contribute in unique and creative ways. PS 207 has served as a living example of these beliefs. We have come so far, yet there is still more to do! Our commitment, actions, and results-oriented nature, coupled with the positive energy across our building, is a natural recipe for success. We must continue to tap into our individual and collective talents with the goal of building the most vibrant learning community filled with staff, students, and families who contribute to growth and success for all.
This year also brings notable leadership transitions within our community. Earlier last year, Ms. Cangialosi accepted an AP role at another school, as PS 207 did not yet have a full-time AP position available. She embraced the opportunity to put her new certification into practice, and we continue to extend our best wishes for her success as she advances in her leadership journey.
This year, we share our heartfelt congratulations with Dr. Santiago, who will sadly be leaving us, but will joyfully begin her new role as principal in District 10 this September 2025. Though her absence will be felt deeply, her journey at PS 207—from classroom teacher, to ENL Coordinator, to AP, and now principal—has been nothing short of inspiring. Dr. Santiago has been an essential part of shaping who we are today, guiding us from where we once stood to the strong, thriving community we have become, and her impact has left an indelible mark on our school community. We know she will bring the same passion and dedication to her new role, and we will continue to build upon the lasting imprint she has left on our minds and our hearts. Her path is a powerful reminder that at PS 207, we grow leaders not only in our students, but also in our educators.
In that same spirit, we are thrilled to be welcoming a new chapter of leadership at PS 207. Just as Dr. Santiago’s journey reflected growth and dedication, our newest team member brings a story of perseverance and passion—beginning as a school aide, then para, then teacher, and now stepping into the role of AP. We are looking forward to officially introducing our brand-new Interim Acting Assistant Principal this September and cannot wait to see how they will guide and inspire our community.
We are looking forward to another great year filled with love, laughter, learning, and the creation of many positive memories together. Enjoy the remaining days of summer… see you soon :)
Collaboratively and Excitedly,
Ms. O’Brien
