On March 13, 2026, the Emerald Society honored our very own Principal Tara O’Brien of PS 207 as the 2026 Elementary Principal of the Year. A proud Bronx native, Ms. O’Brien’s leadership is guided by the spirit of the Claddagh—a traditional Irish symbol representing love, loyalty, and friendship.
“The Claddagh isn’t just a symbol—it’s the community that surrounds us.” — Principal O’Brien
The Heart Represents Love
Inspired by the strength of her mother and aunt, Ms. O’Brien brings a deep sense of family to the PS 207 community. She is the proud mother of Kevin, Aly, Jess, and Sean—a U.S. Marine currently deployed in service to our country. Alongside her children, she shares this journey with her fiancé, Matty, whose constant support helps fuel her dedication to the school community she leads.
The Crown Represents Loyalty
Ms. O’Brien believes that no principal leads alone. She credits her success to the dedicated staff of PS 207, who are far more than colleagues—they are true partners in this work. For her, leadership is rooted in trust, shared responsibility, and standing by one another through every challenge.
The Hands Represent Friendship
Shaped by her roots on a close-knit Bronx block where neighbors looked out for one another, Ms. O’Brien leads with connection at the center. She believes deeply that “no one gets here alone,” and fosters a school community built on collaboration, support, and genuine care for one another.
Congratulations, Principal O’Brien, on this well-deserved honor!— The PS 207 Parents’ Association
